Ambassador Spotlight: Mike Loughery, Sandy Run Country Club

Throughout the year we highlight a dedicated Ambassador who helps advance the mission of the J. Wood Platt Caddie Scholarship Trust at their club and in their community. We’re proud to feature Mike Loughery of Sandy Run Country Club. A dedicated junior golf coach and longtime member at Sandy Run Country Club, he’s spent decades mentoring young players and helping connect them to opportunities that support their path to college through JWP.

Q: What club are you affiliated with and how long have you been involved with JWP?

A: I have been a member at Sandy Run Country Club for thirty-seven years and have been affiliated with JWP for the past seven years.

Q: What inspired you to become a JWP Ambassador?

A: I  like being involved with our youth and teaching them golf. I have been the Junior golf coach at The Run for the past twenty-seven years. I felt that I had a need to get involved with JWP since it gave me another avenue to help juniors find a path to finance their college education.

Q: What’s your connection to the caddie community or the game of golf?

A: At Sandy Run we have no caddies but JWP has expanded eligibility to pro shop employees and bag handlers or anyone in the pro shop it has helped enhance enthusiasm towards member contributions.

Q: What is one thing you’ve done recently to support Platt that you’re proud of?

A: Every year JWP people set up their display tent at our Member/Member Event and that really kicks off our donation program.

Q: Can you tell us about a moment when you felt your efforts were making a difference?

A: Helping our juniors get a job as a caddy at other clubs since we don’t have caddies at Sandy Run.

Q: What does JWP mean to you personally?

A: This is such a great organization to be involved with. The people at JWP are great to deal with. We all share the common goal of helping the kids achieve the scholarship funds needed for college.

Q: What would you say to someone thinking about becoming a JWP Ambassador?

A: Do it! Just do it! – If you are the type of individual who likes getting involved and making a difference helping our kids advance in their career objectives then JWP is the organization for you.
